Patient Care Center—Henderson
All of Your Health Care at Our Center
Patient Care Center - Henderson Opening (from Sun City Anthem TV)
The giant scissors open the way to our community's newest health care facility. The University of Nevada Medical Center Henderson, located about five miles from Sun City Anthem at 3175 Saint Rose Parkway. The many bed facility is an adjunct to the University of Nevada, Reno, one of the top public research universities in the U.S. I spoke to University of Nevada Dean Thomas Schwenk about the importance of this facility to the University medical program and to the Henderson community.
Thomas Schwenk: This is a dream that's been a long time coming. I think the school has wanted, for quite some time, to reach out to the community. You know we're mostly based at UMC, downtown, and most of our residency programs in our training programs are based there and that's wonderful, it's a fabulous place to train, but we have not had as much outreach to other parts of the Las Vegas valley and this is our first really major outreach. We have a family medicine office, kind in the northwest corner the valley, but this is really our largest office that's reached out from downtown. So it's both primary care and specialty care. So, family medicine and pediatrics are kinda the primary care base, so children and families and then lots of surgical and OB/GYN on sub-specialty services. So that a lot of the care, both primary care and specialty care, can be provided in the same office. Dr. Zamboni is our chair of the Department of Surgery. He's a very accomplished plastic surgeon, extremely well known in Las Vegas area, but he's also the Associate Dean for clinical affairs. Meaning he's responsible for all these clinical activities and this has been his dream for many, many years and he and I talked when I came three years ago as Dean of the School of Medicine he said this was one of his highest priorities and we worked together to make it happen. Our chair of obstetrician and gynecology Dr. Dandolu is board-certified and very expert in pelvic disorders, various types of urinary disorders, and disorders other the female pelvis so urogynecology is kinda the combination of more urology, meaning bladder and kidney type issues and pelvic issues. We have family physicians who actually have significant expertise in geriatrics and because, and I'm a family doctor, because we care for you know 'cradle-to-grave' is the phrase. Not most elegant phrase perhaps, but we do a lot of work with older adults. So I think that some of your watchers and listeners would be able to find excellent geriatric care with our family physicians. We have about 180 physician faculty members at the University of Nevada [, Reno] School of Medicine and they are our clinical teachers, they teach our students and our residents, and as part of their membership on our faculty they are all board-certified in their various specialties. They have very high level credentials, we have a very accomplished, very expert physicians, who are teachers but also are practicing physicians. And that's what this office is all about, is a place where our faculty members will see patients. We're gonna try as hard as we can to provide as many services as possible, plus there are other radiology and other imaging services here from other doctors. So this building has become a very one-stop shopping for a wide range of services. Many of them in our office but also other doctors in the area and we'll be exploring relationships with the hospitals in the area, Saint Rose, obviously. So I think it's going to be a whole new vision for the School of Medicine to be viewed in the community and to be seen in the community as a a major provider of healthcare. We would accept any insurance that would come out of Sun City, certainly all Medicare coverage and secondary coverage so I doubt that there'd be any kind problem there.
Reporter: Is there anything that you can add about the facility that we should know about?
TS: Well, it's large. We have about 40 exam rooms, it's really quite huge and it has a huge base of primary care offices and then all the sub-specialty services. We have to rooms for procedures, so surgeons will be doing some outpatient surgical procedures here. I think it's very well located, it's an easy place to to find. When you come down Saint Rose Parkway you look at this building and you think that has to be the medical office building. It's just so prominent and so easy to get to, great parking, great access. I think people should come and take a look.
Reporter: Well, I wanna thank you very much for your time, I know it's a big event today.
Well folks, I'm sitting here in this beautiful new examination room and I'm ready for my exam.
